WHO IS THIS FOR

You've studied Finnish but still don't use much at the grocery store. With the right support and a clear first step, you can change that this week.

The grocery store is perfect for building confidence because you go regularly—giving you natural repetition to practice the same interactions until they feel comfortable.

This mini-course is for you if:

✓ You live in Finland and shop at Finnish grocery stores regularly
✓ You know at least some basic Finnish—from beginner phrases to intermediate level
✓ You want to speak MORE Finnish at the grocery store (or START speaking there)
✓ You can attend both live sessions and visit stores at least 3-4 times this week (see schedule below)

Whether you're just starting or you've studied for years but still don't speak much at the grocery store—we'll work with your level. Beginners might practice one phrase at checkout. Intermediate learners might ask where products are. Advanced learners might work on understanding responses or casual conversation.

The key isn't your Finnish level—it's your willingness to try something new this week.

This is NOT for you if:

✗ You already speak confidently at the grocery store
✗ You're looking for grammar lessons
✗ You can't attend both sessions or visit stores this week

MINI-COURSE DETAILS

This mini-course takes place over 2 sessions.

Session 1: Mon. January 19, 2026 @ 14-15:15

Session 2: Fri. January 23, 2026 @ 14-15

To make the most of the course, please make sure you can attend both sessions.

Format: Live online via Zoom
Time commitment: ~3-4 hours total (2.25 hours live sessions + grocery shopping you're doing anyway)

What's included:

  • Session 1 - 75 mins: Learn phrases for grocery situations, practice with a partner, get your specific assignment for the week

  • Your practice week: Try speaking Finnish at stores 3-4 times with clear guidance on what to say

  • Session 2 - 60 mins: Share what happened, get coaching on tricky parts, practice more scenarios, if time allows

Plus:

  • Specific phrases and scripts for grocery situations

  • Personalized guidance matched to your level

  • Partner practice before trying in real life

  • Group support and accountability

Investment: €39 (includes VAT)

This is a live, interactive experience—not a recording. You get real-time coaching, a small group so everyone gets attention, and accountability to actually do it this week (not "someday").

This is also experimental—I'm testing this format to create the best self-paced version later. You're helping shape what comes next while getting hands-on support that won't be in the recorded version.

Limited spots available.

ABOUT ME

I'm Irina, and I learned Finnish as an adult. I remember waiting in line at the grocery store nervous to stumble through the few words of Finnish I knew—back in 2010 when I first arrived in Finland. Now I see the grocery store as a learning playground, and I want to show you how to create small wins and learnings for yourself.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What level of Finnish do I need?

If you know basic greetings and at least 50-100 words of Finnish, we can work with that. This isn't about being "good enough"—it's about being willing to try.

  • What if I'm quite advanced but still don't speak much at the grocery store?

Perfect! Many intermediate and advanced learners have vocabulary but avoid or freeze in real situations. We'll find the right challenge for your level—maybe asking where things are, understanding fast responses, or making small talk with staff. More important than your level: Can you attend both sessions? Can you visit grocery stores 3-4 times this week? Are you willing to feel a bit awkward yet still try something new?

  • What if I can't make one of the sessions?

Both sessions are essential. Session 1 prepares you, Session 2 helps you process what happened. If you can't attend both, please join my newsletter (leave your email in the 'free training' tab on my website) to find out when/if I offer this again.

  • Do you offer refunds?

No, registration is binding. Please mark your calendar before enrolling—this only works if you're present for both sessions and complete the practice. If you have concerns about whether this is right for you, email me first: irina[at]languagecatalyst[dot]com
